Hall of Fame announces benefit golf tournament March 10 at Sea Island

Updated: Feb 19, 2019

The Glynn County Sports Hall of Fame is preparing to host its golf tournament once again this spring.

The second Glynn County Sports Hall of Fame Golf Classic is scheduled for Sunday, March 10, at the Sea Island Golf Club Retreat Course.

The first tournament was held in March 2017, also at the scenic, well-groomed and challenging Retreat Course that was designed by Sea Island touring professional Davis Love III.

"We certainly are thankful that Sea Island allows us to hold our benefit tournament on one of their courses," said Hall of Fame president Kevin Price. "We have been fortunate to establish a great relationship with Sea Island, its leadership team and the golf staff there. We're just excited to have this great venue for our event and have such great supporters who help us provide really attractive prizes to give away to our players to go along with the top-notch golf experience provided by Sea Island.

"Two years ago, the weather wasn't ideal for golf, but the players still came out, made the most of the really windy and cold conditions and helped us have a successful inaugural event. Once again, we hope that our community will support the Hall of Fame by participating in the tournament which is designed to have good-spirit competition for what we think is a good cause and mainly for our players to have a good time with their friends and fellow competitors. We think we already have one of the best tournaments of this kind in Glynn County and we're working to provide another really fun golf outing for the community."

This year's event is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start.

The entry fee for a four-person team in the scramble tournament is $600 per team or $150 per player. This includes cart, greens fees and lunch plus a complimentary 2019 tournament hat from the Hall of Fame. Players will also have access to the practice range and putting green prior to play.

Registration is currently under way. There is room for the first 22 teams that sign up. One team will be put on each hole for the shotgun with two teams being placed on the four par-5 holes with a capacity field.

The tournament committee is asking that all registration fees be paid in full by March 1 to guarantee a spot in the field. Checks can be made payable to Glynn County Sports Hall of Fame. Payment can be mailed to the hall of fame at P.O. Box 1521, Brunswick, Ga., 31521.

All teams are also asked to submit the tournament registration form in addition to the payment. The form should include the names of the four participating players for each team if possible along with their official individual handicaps. Should you not be able to provide each team member's name at the time of registration, please due so as soon as possible prior to tournament week so player names and handicaps can be used for various purposes by the Sea Island staff and the Hall of Fame tournament committee.

The Hall of Fame is also seeking hole sponsorships. These can be purchased for $100 each. Registration and payment is also due by March 1 if possible. All sponsors will get public recognition in a press release on our new web site, through Hall of Fame social media platforms and in several ways the day of the tournament.

The registration form for both teams and sponsors is available in the Event listing on our web site. You can also request this form from any current board members, all of whom are listed on the web site or by sending an email to gcsportshall@gmail.com.

There will be prizes for the top teams in both Gross and Net Divisions. The prizes will likely be complimentary four-person rounds of golf on some of the finest courses in the area including those right here in Brunswick and on St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island.

All players also will have the chance to win prizes for long drives and also close-ups on the par-3 holes.

Players will also have a chance to purchase mulligan tickets prior to play which make them eligible for a drawing for a 50-inch flat screen television from H and H Lifestyles on St. Simons Island.

The tickets also will be used to draw players' names for an assortment of door prizes including golf apparel and equipment, restaurant gift certificates and much more.

An awards ceremony will be held as soon as possible following the completion of play.

Please use the above Hall of Fame email address to inquire about more tournament information or ask questions. One of our officers will respond to your inquiry as soon as possible.

All proceeds will benefit the Hall of Fame. We are a non-profit organization which formed in 2011. The first induction class was honored in March 2012 with the first five induction groups named through the 2016 induction banquet which was the last of the annual ceremonies.

The Hall of Fame Board of Directors voted that year to begin holding inductions every other year. The last induction ceremony was held in March 2018 and brought the Hall of Fame membership to 35 honorees. All HOF members and their biographical sketches are also a major component of our new web site. Please review those to learn about the past inductees and their accomplishments.
